Hermann Ebbinghaus first documented forgetting curves in 1885, establishing that unrehearsed memories decay over time. The modern literature has refined that observation considerably: spacing helps, but the exact rates of forgetting vary by material, context, and individual.
CloudReflex applies this by resurfacing patterns and trap types that have not been practiced recently or that appear to be weakening. That resurfacing logic is a product design choice, but it is directionally aligned with the literature on spaced review.
Errorful learning and feedback
A wrong answer can be useful if the feedback helps you understand why.
Learning research does not treat mistakes as pure failure. Under the right conditions, errors followed by corrective feedback can improve later performance. Butterfield and Metcalfe (2001) found that high-confidence mistakes can become especially powerful correction points — a phenomenon they called "hypercorrection."

Discrimination and category learning
Many exam questions are tests of distinction, not recall.
Certification exams often present several answers that are all adjacent to the topic. The challenge is not only remembering services or concepts. It is distinguishing between near neighbors under time pressure.
Research on category learning and interleaving suggests that learning improves when people repeatedly distinguish between similar categories rather than studying one category in isolation. Kornell and Bjork (2008) found that interleaved study produced stronger category induction, even though learners often preferred blocked study. Rohrer and Taylor (2007) found similar benefits from shuffling practice problems across types.
