The gap

The questions do not look like what you practiced. Two answers seem right. You pick one. You second-guess yourself. You check the clock and realize you have been on this question for three minutes. Every training session runs the same loop. The loop is simple. The calibration behind it is not.
Train
You answer timed micro-scenarios under exam pressure. Not multiple-choice trivia. Realistic decision problems where two or three answers are plausible and the right one depends on a constraint you might miss.
Classify
Every answer is tagged across three dimensions: trap type, question pattern, and domain. Not a grade. A diagnosis. Telling you "wrong" is useless. Telling you "you fell for near-right architecture in the resilience domain" is actionable.
Target
Your next session overweights the areas where your accuracy is lowest. Strong domains get maintenance reps. Weak domains get 3x the volume. You stop wasting time on what you already know.
Measure
Your readiness score updates after every session. It is calibrated to your exam's passing threshold, not a generic percentage. When it plateaus, you know exactly which trap types and domains are holding it down.
What does not work
Three study methods that feel productive but do not move the needle
Practice exams
You take a 65-question practice test, review explanations for 20 minutes, and repeat. Each time you see the same questions. You are memorizing answers, not building decision patterns. A single practice test covers a fraction of the exam's surface area, and repeating it just entrenches the fraction you have already seen.
What works instead
Training across hundreds of unique scenarios across every pattern and trap type, with adaptive targeting that ensures you see what you need, not what you have already mastered.
Video courses
You understand the architecture. You can explain it in a meeting. But explaining and choosing under 90-second pressure are different cognitive tasks. Video courses build comprehension. Exams test decision speed. These are not the same skill.

Timed decision practice under exam-realistic constraints. Comprehension is the prerequisite. Execution under pressure is the exam.
Flashcards
They test recall. Exams test judgment. Knowing what S3 Glacier does is different from choosing between Glacier and Glacier Deep Archive when the scenario says "accessed once per quarter within 12 hours." Flashcards cannot train the constraint-reading skill that separates a 680 from a 780.
What works instead
Scenario-based sessions where every question requires reading constraints, evaluating trade-offs, and committing to a judgment call. The same cognitive task the exam demands.
The readiness score
One number that tells you if you are ready
Practice test scores are snapshots. You took one test, at one point in time, and got a number. That number tells you how you did on those specific questions. It does not tell you whether you will pass.
Your readiness score is different. A rolling measure that accounts for:
- Accuracy. Across all domains, weighted by exam domain weights. Not a flat average.
- Trap susceptibility. How often you fall for specific distractor types. Some traps catch you consistently. Others you have already learned to see.
- Decision speed. Are you fast enough to finish without rushing? Speed without accuracy is guessing. Accuracy without speed means you run out of time on the hard questions.
- Trend. Are your weak areas improving or plateauing? A rising trend means your training is working. A plateau means your training mix needs recalibration.
- Coverage. Have you seen enough question variety in each domain? Gaps in coverage mean surprises on exam day.
The correlation that matters: Below 70% readiness, you are guessing on traps. Between 70% and 85%, you recognize most patterns but still lose time on the unfamiliar ones. Above 85%, the exam feels like a longer version of your sessions. That's the target.
