Azure Administrator (AZ-104) pattern recognition
6 question patterns across 200 Administrator questions. Learn the structures — stop guessing, start recognizing.
AZ-104 question patterns center on control layer selection and assignment scope
A large share of questions present a multi-service administrative tradeoff: given a scenario, which service or configuration option is the correct fit. Security and governance boundary questions form the more demanding pattern: they require distinguishing whether the scenario calls for RBAC (who can act), Azure Policy (what configuration is permitted), NSG (what traffic is permitted), or Conditional Access (under what identity conditions). These patterns surface repeatedly with different resource types (storage accounts, virtual machines, VNets), so the underlying structure is the same even when the surface details change. Multi-account governance (management groups, subscription scope, resource group assignment) and infrastructure deployment patterns round out the remainder.
See which trap types overlap with these patterns on the Azure Administrator Trap Evaluation page, or review the full Azure Administrator Exam Guide.
